What is Net Metering

Net Metering is applied to residential and commercial premises and concerns the offsetting of the energy produced by a photovoltaic station installed on the property, with the energy consumed by the installation.

In case the production is greater than the consumption, the surplus is supplied to the electricity grid and the self-producer benefits from the difference in his next settlement bill.

In the event that the energy produced is less than that consumed, this difference constitutes the amount of the bill.

How is it installed and how does it work?

The installation of the photovoltaic system is usually done on the roof of the building. The generated energy first passes through the internal installation and in case it is not consumed, it’s channeled into the network.

The Offsetting Agreement is signed between the supplier and the self-producer and has a validity period of 25 years, starting on the date of activation of the connection of the photovoltaic system. Also, the self-producer is not bound by the change of supplier. In this case, the contract is interrupted and a new one is signed between the self-producer and the new supplier for the remaining period.
